Phonology is a topic that can be overlooked, even by native English speakers. Through this unit, I've learned about the stress and intonation of individual words and full sentences respectively. For instance, I've learned that intonation carries the message in a sentence. There are patterns that are commonly followed by English speakers, for instance, if someone is trying to get a response out of the person they are addressing, their speech will naturally follow the fall/rise pattern. Reviewing stress was also helpful, especially seeing how the meaning of the entire sentence can change depending on which word the speaker chooses to stress. There were many other helpful things in this unit, such as sound joining, articulation, and the phonetic alphabet. This unit did a great job of explaining things that many people may overlook.
