This chapter introduces the complex nature of English verb tenses. There is some initial discussion about how many verb tenses exist. This course teaches that there are three different tenses/times; past, present, and future. While three tenses intially seems simple enough, it becomes more difficult to learn that there are 4 aspects to each tense: simple, continuous, perfect, and perfect continuos. This lesson focuses on the four aspects of the present tense verb. The material for this lesson provides information on the form or structure in the use of each aspect, a brief list of reasons for usage of specific tense, an identification of typical mistakes made by students that are studying the tense, and Activation ideas and exercises to help give students opportunities for practical learning and usage.
