A clear understanding of grammar, and its uses, provide a happier, more confident environment for the student. Understanding the important modal verbs, and their different usages allow clear explanations and examples for the students. Many of them have similar meaning so being able to show the students the differences-- such as level of politeness in can - could - and may--brings them ease of understanding. Relative clauses can be important for describing people and helping the students to see the scenarios will allow them to apply the concepts easily. With phrasal verbs, it is best to just introduce a few at a time during a relative topic, without giving a whole grammar lesson as they are all varying in particles and prepositions and it can become a nightmare for the students to tackle from just a grammar standpoint.
