Unit 13 broke up English grammar into formulae and general rules by laying down rules and giving general guidelines. The unit further started off with the description of intonation and the different patterns associated with it. The second heading was stress, with its subheadings being lack of stress and techniques for indicating and teaching stress. Sound in pronunciation was elaborated on and the four major ways that sounds join together in English. The importance of the phonemic alphabet was stated and how it could be used and how helpful the use of it can be. Followed by articulation and manner of articulation. Lastly, teaching techniques for the pronunciation of individual sounds.
