Unit 12 introduces the four basic skills of any language, focusing on the two productive skills: speaking and writing as well as including classroom game ideas. It explains the differences between accuracy and fluency activities and at which phase in the lesson to use it. As well as providing several example activities to introduce to create a desire and need for the students to communicate. It is important to encourage student interaction in a comfortable atmosphere so they will want to participate. Some techniques for encouraging interaction include pair or group work, guided and controlled practice before starting a fluency activity, creating a purposeful speaking activity relevant to student interests as well as careful lesson planning and time management. This unit also provided me with guidelines for both creative writing and speaking activities before, during and after and activity. Teaching the differences in grammar, vocabulary, spelling, layout and punctuation will be a challenge. It its extremely important to be encouraging and give students the opportunity to self correct. Using specific exercises, drillings, extensive readings and fun interactive games is necessary to keep students engaged and motivated to learn.
