Experienced teachers often know which types of materials are appropriate to use in their individual classrooms. Authentic materials are great for motivating students since they have real life application, but must be carefully picked so that they don't discourage beginner students who may have a limited range of vocabulary and grammar to support their understanding. Created materials are used to supplement this as they can be catered to whatever the learning goal is and the levels of the students. On the positive side, coursebooks offer a structured order of learning with a proven syllabus and many resources for support (like teacher's manuals, CDs, videos, etc.). However, the interface, price, contents and materials may not be interesting or appropriate for the student's learning levels or culture. That's why teachers will need to learn to adapt, discard, replace, or supplement the material to fit it to student's needs.
