Unit 13 has given an outline of the some of the aspects of teaching the pronunciation of the English language. This aspect of language teaching can be approached in a number of ways, such as dedicating a whole lesson, allocating a certain amount of time per lesson or as and when required.
The importance of the use of stress and intonation to add meaning and emphasis to the spoken language have been discussed. Also, techniques to develop this skill with our students were explored.
The phonemic alphabet was introduced along with the structure of the speech organs and how they are used/manipulated to articulate the English language.
This was actually my first proper exposure to the phonemic alphabet and I found it to be both interesting and challenging.
