This unit has outlined the various types of testing and evaluation tools available to the teacher. The use of placement and diagnostic testing at the start of a language course were explored, and how this type of testing tool can effectively measure what the student already knows of the English language.
The importance of progress tests throughout the course were discussed, and how this type of testing can be used to determine the aims of the lessons. The teacher can use this type of testing to determine if progress is being made in all the receptive skills.
Information was also given about the various types of external exams available to learners of the English language. This was interesting to me as I have already assisted students in preparing for both the BULATS and iELTS examinations. There are a large number of options available to the English language learner depending on their goals and motivations.
