This unit highlighted the different ways that teachers can evaluate their student's level and progress. It also discussed the common exams that some teachers may need to prepare their students for.
As a teacher, I would make an effort to provide ongoing feedback for all of my students in the classroom, as it will give my students a stronger understanding of their own level of progress throughout the course. However, I would want to provide a more formal means of feedback as well. I would certainly want to conduct placement and diagnostic tests at the beginning of the course so I could determine the language level of the students and what the students do/don’t know. This is very important, as it will help me to prepare lessons and materials that cater to my students' needs. I would also incorporate a variety of progress tests (e.g., formal tests and informal group activities/games), which will test the students on the content covered in class. Lastly, I would provide my students with practice tests to give them an idea of how close they are to the required standard.
I also like the idea of conducting tutorials with the class as a way of reviewing the coursework and the work that they had completed. While this isn't something I would have time for every class, I would want to dedicate 10-20 minutes each week to a whole group discussion where I could discuss how well the students preformed the different tasks/activities throughout the week and highlight any problems they might have encountered.
