In Unit 14 I learned the following: Coursebooks and lesson material
Materials can be divided into two groups - Authentic - programs magazines, newspapers, songs, poems brochures - Tend to be more motivating and interesting
Created Materials - can be graded to the level of the students (Unlike Authentic) - Common created materials include: Crosswords, Word Search Puzzles, Role-Play Cards, Flashcards.
Course books - What course books consist of: Teacher copy, students copy, work books, cassettes.
Course book advantages - Expected by students, Takes less time than teacher creating their own course work and syllabus, Provides for Security for student and teacher, balanced mix of grammar and vocabulary, Has good ideas for inexperienced teachers.
Course book disadvantages - Does not fit specific needs, Students may not like book, can be boring for students,
Options for using text book: 1 Omit certain lessons, Replace certain materials, Supplement in addition to book, Adapt material to teachers style.
