In this unit, receptive teaching skills were discussed e.g. Reading, listening, speaking and writing. This course specifically focused on reading and listening receptive skills. The reasons won uses they’re listening and reading skills is for a purpose and for entertainment. These skills are used in a classroom setting when one is predicting something, scanning through a text, skimming through a text to get the general idea, for more detailed information and to deduct context from a text. The problems that may arise when teaching receptive skills are due to language. These errors and mistakes can be avoided by pre-teaching vocabulary and by carefully choosing which texts to work with. I have learned the best way to teach any topic is to use something that the students are all interested in. I must create an engaging interest within the students before and during the engage stage of ESA. This course has taught me an ESA patchwork method to use when teaching receptive skills.
