In this unit, the usage of course books and lesson materials were discussed. When using lesson materials it is best to have more authentic materials that the students can relate to such as, newspaper clippings, magazine clippings, and radio broadcast clips. Authentic lesson materials provide confidence for the students and are geared towards their general interests. In this unit, I was provided excellent created materials to use to supplement for authentic ones. Created materials include role play cards, crosswords, word searches etc. These materials are more grade level appropriate compared to authentic materials. Besides materials, course books have a great disadvantages and many advantages in a classroom setting. Some disadvantages include a repetitive lesson plan, students can lose interest, and are geared towards a wide array of nationalities which is good depending on the type of students one may have. Some advantages include A guideline for new teachers to follow, continually goes over previous learned lessons and less time consuming. In this course, I have learned how to adapt to different lesson materials and coursebooks to see which is suitable within my future classroom.
