I learnt about how pronunciation is one of the more neglected aspects of English language teaching but also how it is considered very difficult by the students. Pronunciation affects the meaning of the sentence and I saw ways in which the meaning can change depending on phonology, by using intonation, stress, and rhythm. I learnt techniques for indicating and teaching intonation and some basic rules to follow when identifying where to stress. I also learnt about sound joining and linked speech, and read a poem which highlights the difficulties in pronunciation in the English language. Finally I learnt about the phonemic alphabet and how the manner, and place of articulation work with the speech organs to make sounds and pronounce words.
