Uni 9 taught me the importance of having a lesson plan before class, how to structure it and how much to rely on the plan during class. I learned that not having a lesson plan at all and sticking rigidly to one are two extremes. The middle ground would be making a lesson plan for guidance but having enough flexibility to allow for a natural flow of the lesson. I learned that lesson plans serve three main functions: keeping a record of what the students learned, a reference during the lesson and a good planning tool. Unit 9 reviewed some of the key components that comprise a lesson plan including personal aims as a teacher, what you hope the students learn, utilizing the three phases of ESA, and more.
