In this unit, modals, passive voice and phrasal verbs were explained. A modal are words like could, might, should, would, may , shall, can etc. they are placed before verbs to add meaning. They are also used to express ideas such as advice, ability, possiblity, obligation and permission. I can teach these verbs by using role playing games or traffic signs. Passive voice is opposing to active voice which the object of the active verb becomes the subject of a passive verb. Passive voice the sentence structure is changed to accommodate the for which tense is being discussed. This voice is used when something is not known or important or things we don’t want to say. In my future classroom, I can use cards for students to construct passive voice sentences. In addition, I learned about relative clauses which modifies a noun and places emphasis on that specific topic. For example “my brother, who is a teacher, is looking forward to next holiday break.” Lastly, the course explained the three types of Phrasal Verbs which are verbs that contain one or two participles. This course has taught me how to differentiate between modals and their tenses as well as helpful tips when teaching Phrasal Verbs to my students.
