When teaching children, fun and short activities that promote their involvement will be much more effective than long demonstrations or explanations by the teacher. Games and things that involve movement are great, but the instructions and expectations must be very clear. The level of actual activity might start small at the beginning of the course as expectations are set and communicated. As the weeks progress and children get a better feel for the structure of the class and what is and is not acceptable behavior, then activities requiring more movement and interaction among the children can be introduced.
