The focus of this unit is on describing and categorizing teachers and students including the roles of a teacher. According to this unit there are at least five characteristic roles that are considered fundamental as a teacher. There is a brief discussion of the characteristics of good learners and good teachers. The differences in motivation between adult learners and young students is discussed with older students being more motivated given their choice to take classes versus younger students who are required to be in class. The unit also discusses the traits found in different levels of students and why certain students may present challenging behavior in the classroom such as embarrassment or lack of concentration and motivation.
