What I have learned in this unit 17 about equipment and teaching aids is that there are different teaching aids that can be used to make lessons more interesting, effective and less dependent on the textbook, such as white or black board, smart board, projector, computers, etc. All the classrooms should have a board of some kind, and it is important to follow the basic principles for board work. Because the board should be planned and organized. Teacher can write, draw, stick teaching materials on, or even project overhead transparencies. It is recommended to test and have a back up plan in case the interactive whiteboard does not work and also bear in mind such as setting the IWB in the right position of the classroom, teachers should practice and ask for training about how to use the IWB software, teachers should get ready a good lesson plan with an IWB.
The overhead projectors are useful for showing prepared overhead transparencies, using OHP has its advantages like focus the students attention, OHTs can be prepared and teachers avoid having their back to students while doing board work, etc. Some disadvantages are that the classrooms need a surface that is not bleached out by the direct sunlight, some OHPs can be rather complicated to set up, etc.
The must common visual aids that can be used in a classroom are real objects, pictures and photos. Teacher can use worksheets and work cards, audio recorders, videos and DVDs, video camera, dictionaries, course books and resource books, computers and even the use of photocopiers are some equipment and teaching aids useful for a success class.
