In this unit, different types of test and assessments were discussed. For example, progress tests, diagnostic tests, placement tests, and external exams were are all identified and explained. These exams I needed to evaluate students on all levels. Placement test are used to see where students should be placed based upon their skill set of the language. Most placement exams are multiple choice and start off easy but gradually become harder as each question passes. Progress exams are taken periodically throughout the school year to see where students have gauged the language and the level they are on. Progress test are also used to understand if the student has comprehended the new lesson(s) that were given. A diagnostic exam it’s similar to a placement exam however, these are given by teachers at the start of the course to identify any difficulties each student may have. Lastly, I learned about external exams our given buy outside organizations which measure proficiency in English depending upon the skills that each exam is evaluating. This course, has taught me the differences between different exams and the reasoning behind why they are given to students before, during, and after a language course.
