This unit continued with the next two strands of language learning – the productive act of writing and speaking. As with receptive skills, both of these skills are important. It stated that writing may be the most under taught strand as students and teachers often focus on oral communication rather than written, but learning the written word along with the spoken reinforces the oral learning. Accuracy versus fluency were considered, and activities related to both outlined. Lesson plans and ideas were again covered, and the appropriate use of games as a way to engage students and provide an opportunity for spontaneous speaking was encouraged and examples provided.
