The unit begins by discussing the various ways of evaluating a student's language level: Tutorials (reviewing, discussing lesson goals, student performance, problems), Student evaluations (whether course content is too easy, just right or too difficult) and Tests. The unit continues by elaborating on the different types of tests. First discussing Placement tests (used to gauge student language level prior to the start of the course), next Progress tests (used to see what course content has been retained, forgotten by students), then Diagnostic tests (given at beginning of course to see what students already know), Practice tests (used to prepare students for external examinations). Finally the unit concluded by going over the differing types of external examinations (TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, Cambridge Assessments - KET, PET, FCE, CAE, CPE, Skills for Life, BEC and BULATS).
