This unit covered the different methodologies of teaching languages. Parts of each of these methodologies can be found in the current teaching method, ESA. For example, audio-linguism is based on the concept of repetition, habit, and lengthy language drills, smaller versions of this can be seen in the engage and study portion of ESA. Community language learning is based on the concept that with enough exposure and opportunities to use the language being learned that the learning will sort itself out, this can be seen echoed in the the activate portion of ESA as this portion allows students time to be more creative with language and use it how they feel it should be used. It is important the teacher is not too critical and allows for student correction as well as peer correction. Praise is also an important part of feedback that is often left out of the process. There are also certain times that corrections should appear such as during the study portion when made in the engage portion or study portion, but only if it is crucial during the activate period.
