This unit covered concepts to know in order to teach a new language. Specifically, incorporating vocabulary, grammar and functions in order for students to comprehend the language. I learned that when teaching vocabulary, how easy or difficult the words can be to a student depend upon similarities between native language, spelling, pronunciation, appropriacy and similarities to English words previously learned. When introducing grammatical structures a teacher must explain the meaning, usage, formation(s), pattern(s), written and spoken comes to the students in order for them to grasp the structure. The course also discussed language functions which address formal, informal, agreeing, inviting and other instances in which the need to activate the English language comes about. This course provided me with ways to use ESA while teaching new language. For example, role play is a sufficient activity to see if students understand the new language. I have also learned new engaging and study concepts.
