Modals, phrasal verbs and passive and active voice reinforced how nuanced English is to learn and why it is potentially so difficult. I l know many native, fluent speakers who would have no idea what the difference is between active and passive voice. The idea of modal auxiliary verbs is very important because it determines whether or not a communication is interpreted as obligation, possibility or advice among others, or the degree of formality or politeness which could change the nature of the the communication considerably. It is also interesting how there are different labels for the same idea in grammar studies - what is called auxiliary verbs in this unit I was taught is a "helping verb" which is no big deal for me, but if I was an English language learner reading different sources it could be quite confusing. All the units have good ideas to consider when teaching because as a native speaker all of the complexities are taken for granted.
