This unit continued to teach me about the 4 basic integrated skills, focusing on speaking and writing. I learnt about why we as teachers, must create the need and desire to communicate and should encourage as much as possible to encourage participation.
I learnt the difference between accuracy and fluency activities and in which part of the lesson to include them in. I also learnt some examples of speaking activities in the classroom and whether they are fluency or accuracy activities. I learnt techniques to encourage participation and was informed about reasons as to why a student may not want to participate. I learnt some guidelines as to how to prepare a speaking activity, including notes about, during the activity, and after the activity. I then learnt about the difficulties students might encounter in writing exercises, namely: handwriting, spelling, layout and punctuation. I studied a typical creative writing activity lesson.
The unit finished with learning about the uses of games within the classroom, how they can help motivate and encourage the students, and finished with some international examples of games that have been tried and tested,
