This course revealed much about the importance of selecting and proper utilization of different references for the whole ESL lessons. This showed the variances of course books and other references such as textbooks, dictionaries, other visual aids and the important points that need to be considered. Also some support in terms of technology is also an advantage, which includes: music, CDs and videos as well to support the lesson.
It is interesting to know that resource books come in 3 series - student’s book, workbook and teacher’s resource book. These books come together to strengthen the lesson points when adapted properly. The factors that should be considered when analyzing a course book include: price, availability, design, methodology, skills, difficulty, syllabus, topic, teacher’s guide and ancillary materials. Ironically, I just learned that its publisher isn’t on the list, when based on observation, this is usually considered more than the others.
