I learned about how to handle different first lesson class. In a new group the students
need to build a rapport to get to know each other and for the teacher to get get to know
the students. For existing student, the teacher and the students already know each other.
For the first lesson the teacher shouldn't use the textbook but can use some information from the book, but limit the content from the book.The first lesson is to build a rapport, find out about the students, find out the students' need, and to find out the level of each student. There are several activities to use in the first lesson to
build rapport such as pass the ball, hang-man, tongue twisters, pictionary and more.
Teachers will have difficulties in large classes where they have different level students. One way of dealing with this large group is to pair stronger student with weaker ones, use worksheets, make sure board work and voice is clear and visible, Choral repetition, appoint group leaders, and dynamics. Don't avoid the listening text activities, I need to do what I can get the students involved such as playing it over and over, and play it at a slower pace to ensure all the student hear the contents.
