This lesson was particularly tricky compared to the others because intonation and phonemes are not typically taught in schools. I feel this lesson was immensely helpful with deciphering how to read the phonemic alphabet so that I can provide a better pronunciation guide to students. When it comes to speaking English I normally do not think about stress, intonation, what part of my mouth is used to make sounds, and so on. This unit was a great way to really understand the nuances of speaking and pronouncing words in English, and I felt this lesson answered questions I didn't even know I had. It laid out the differences between sounds, such as why "f" and "v" sound different: there is a difference in manner of articulation, even thought the place of articulation is the same. I found this lesson absolutely fascinating, like I was learning new aspects of my own mother tongue.
