The content of this unit deals with lesson planning. The importance of planning is highlighted with an emphasis on the importance of remaining flexible in order to cater to the students learning needs. Planning is essential when creating a clear view of goals to be achieved by students and teacher during the course of a lesson or over the planned schedule of many lessons. Time management relies upon good planning as does organizing materials and equipment which may be essential to the lesson. Maintaining lesson structure and an on going record of what has been achieved by both teacher and students is essential to the flow of learning and the improvement of both the students language and the teachers skills. Examples of lesson planning sheets are helpful as is a sheet for teachers to self evaluate. It is suggested that as teachers gain experience they will gain more flexibility during the course of their lessons making it easier to adjust their plan according to the students needs.
