This unit is about teaching receptive skills. It gives an overview that there are four basic skills in any language: receptive skills - reading and listening, and productive skills - speaking and writing. It goes on to describe aspects of the receptive skills such as motives for reading and listening, different ways in which we read and listen, and problems that students may have. The example patchwork lesson helps give a good understanding of how these receptive skills can be taught to students, and importantly, how to keep their interest.
