Lessons without plans are not successful. That isn't to say that everything should be scripted. The lesson plan gives a framework for the teacher so they can best utilize classroom time to the best of their ability. It also gives newer teacher comfort knowing that their 50 minute class doesn't feel so long when the timings of the different activities are listed. It's easier to focus on a 10 minute activity than a full 50 minute lesson. The lesson plan also keeps the class on task and makes sure that the teacher has all desired materials for that lesson. It also gives a chance for the teacher to see problems before they happen. I found this unit to be very valuable and I feel that the structure outlined in this unit would be a great system to use within our classes.
