This first unit was a broad overview of what makes a good teacher and a good learner, as well as some of the likely levels and types of students a teacher might encounter, and what their motivations for learning English might be. While teachers can do a lot to make the experience enjoyable and effective, it is the student's responsibility to be open, do the work, and understand the material for themselves. I learned two ways that students are categorized into proficiency levels, which is useful when assessing a student initially and creating a lesson plan.
