In this unit, I learned about the productive skills which are speaking and writing. Both are equally important. Accuracy activities are usually teacher guided and done in the study phase of the ESA and fluency activities usually give the students the opportunity to be creative and experiment with the language; this is done in the activate stage of the ESA. There are different types of speaking activities: creative communication(created by the teacher but content isn't), controlled activities(guided by the teacher), and guided activities(output controlled by the teacher). Students can be very reluctant to speak for a variety of reasons, as a result the teacher needs to encourage this by using different techniques to encourage student. This can be done by putting students in pairs, groups controlled and guided practices, give students time to think for some activities, careful planning and create a desire for the students to speak. This can be achieved by using the ESA. I also learned that handwriting is very important when communicating as many students may be familiar with this kind of writing.
