Differentiation is made between authentic material and created material. Authentic material, being almost all language material that a native speaker may come across, provides interesting interaction with the language for students as subjects can be diverse. Students also gain confidence when using authentic material. Created material can supplement both authentic material and course books as a way of presenting specific language points catered to the students level and needs. Course books have both advantages and disadvantages and it is obvious that an effective teacher should not rely solely on course book material. Lesson planning, although aided by course books, should be created in way in which the teacher believes that particular groups of students will have their learning needs met. Course books have syllabus designed to suit a class generally and are unable to cater to specific needs of students from a specific nationality. The teacher must use creativity in order to produce an effective lesson as part of a relevant course syllabus.
