This unit describes the various parts of speech that makes up the English language. The parts of speech are: nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, gerunds, pronouns, prepositions, conjunctions and articles. Each of the afore-mentioned parts of speech are described in detail in this unit with useful examples for improved clarity and understanding. By completing this unit I have obtained a very good understanding of the parts of speech in the English language and more importantly, the challenges that students will experience in their learning of this content. The parts of speech that I consider will be most challenging for my students will be the irregular verbs and their various forms. In addition, I appreciate that the prepositions and conjunctions will also pose a challenge to my students. It will therefore be important to find simple yet effective ways to explain these elements to my students. I thoroughly enjoyed learning this unit as it helped me to become aware of the importance of using parts of speech correctly to improve one's English grammar. Thank you.
