I learned that pronunciation is very important in teaching how to speak English and students are concerned about pronunciation as well as other areas. I learned about phonology of English. I learned the importance of teaching stress, intonation, rhythm and the IPA. I understand that intonation is the variation in volume and pitch in the sentence and stress focuses on the word. There is the rise/fall, fall/rise and flat intonation in a statement. There are techniques for teaching intonations such as: nonsense words, by gesture, humming or singing, and the board. I learn about the four major ways sounds join together in English. They are linking, sound dropping, sound changing, and extra lettering. Using an English dictionary can help with the pronunciation of words and it will also show the IPA to help with the phonetic symbols as well.
