From this unit, I learned that there are four basic skills to any language. Receptive skills: Reading and listening; Productive skills: speaking and writing. All the skills are equally important and that all is required for understanding a new language. There are certain reasons for people to read and listen. People can read for fun or read because they're searching for answer. We can grab a book by our favorite author and just read the book to kill time or we can read the newspaper to find out what's going on in today's society. We read signs to help direct us to certain place or we read to seek out answers to our questions. Listening is equally important due to the fact that we listen everyday to commands, to nature, to the news, to the teacher etc. We listen to help us understand what's going on. We listen to help us recognize words and understand languages. By knowing how to read and listen, students will be able to develop a deeper understanding to the language. Being able to read will provide them the skill to find and search for their own answers. Listening to will help them grasp the language easier by being expose to the element.
