This unit covered a range of teaching techniques which have been proposed in language teaching and learning. All have their pros and cons, and whether or not a teacher chooses to use a particular technique will depend mostly on their personal preferences and the dynamic of the group they are teaching. The module went on to focus on the Engage-Study-Activate lesson model. This is a useful structure to plan your lessons around. The class should contain an 'Engage' section at the beginning, which is intended to warm the students up and bring them into the right mental space for language learning. The Study stage looks at a particular topic more closely, and is where new topics or language points may be introduced where relevant. The Activate section then seeks to put what has been learned in the Study section into practice, using a variety of exercises to encourage students to use any of the language they have learned thus far.
