Unit Sixteen addressed Conditionals and Reported Speech. There are 5 forms of Conditionals: Zero, First, Second, Third and Mixed. Zero conditional is for irrefutable events. First conditional is for real situations in the future. Second conditional is for unreal hypothetical situations using past simple. Third conditional is for hypothetical past situations with hypothetical past results. Mixed conditional is for hypothetical past situations for hypothetical present results. Reporting speech is when a person states what another person said. It can be confusing because reported speech may require changes to tense, pronouns and time expressions! Direct speech is simple: it is the exact words that people say contained in quote marks.
