In the introduction to this unit, it is good to note that all continuous forms feature a form of the verb 'to be' and the '-ing' ending. And that all perfect forms feature a form of the verb 'to have'. These are good rules to remember and to stress to students.. The 'Perfect' form always describes an action that has already happened. It's good to also stress that any perfect and continuous forms are the same in terms of structure and the difference in tense changes according to which tense is used of the auxiliary verbs 'to be' and 'to have'. Keeping this in mind will make memorizing and forming these structures easier. Example:
I had watched vs. I have watched.
Same sentence structure, different tense.
