There are many methodologies to effectively teach and EFL class but perhaps the most efficient one is ESA i.e. Engage, Study, Activate. The lesson plan always begins with an Engage phase where the teacher tries to grab the attention of the students and plans an activity that gets them interested in the topic of the day. In the Study phase, the teacher presents the topic and focuses on elicitation, pronunciation, spelling, meaning, word-order and analysis using various techniques. In the activate phase, students are engaged in activities that help promote the use of recently acquired knowledge and thereby, enhancing the retainment of this knowledge. What is also equally important is to give feedback or correct the students when they make a mistake. However, before blatantly pointing out the mistake, the teacher must make room for self-correction, peer-correction and give hints to correct them. More importantly, the teacher should wait for the students to finish before interrupting their flow to correct them. It is to be noted that feedback is better given after the activate stage.
