I experienced teaching English in a country which English is also their second language, but It was not too difficult for me to teach them to improve their accuracy and fluency especially in speaking, because of their exposure to the language in their daily life in school and even in their community. They can hear the English language from their other subjects like Math and Science, and they can also watch English news or movies on the TV at home. But when I started teaching English in a cram school here in Japan, it is always a challenge to me, how to help the students develop these areas because of too limited places they can go to practice the language. But after reading this unit of this course, particularly the examples that are given, like the guided activities for accuracy and creative activities for the fluency, I began to realize that I could still help them develop these areas by adapting the ideas I have learned from this unit. I need to change some of the strategies I have been using before which its focus was more on grammar rules. Unlike before I would give my students more drills and interactive task this time to expose them more to the language. In spite of the lack of places they can go to practice the language, I believe, by giving them a variety of task to experience by using similar activities presented in this unit will benefit them. As a result, I think the anxiety I am experiencing right now will lessen too. To conclude, base on my observation in the explanations and examples presented in this lesson, accuracy, and fluency in speaking and writing in English could be developed by using interactive activities with the proper guidance, knowledge, and awareness of the teacher to handle such activity.
