This unit talked about listening and reading skills, which are known as receptive language skills. This is because the student receives the language in either written or aural form, rather than producing it themselves. It is important that students have the opportunity to practice both receptive and productive skills equally so that they can become proficient language users. This unit discussed some of the common problems that come about when teaching receptive language skills. These include problems with language comprehension, lack of interest in topics, and overly ambitious exercises.
