This unit discussed the advantages and disadvantages of authentic and created materials. It also discussed the advantages and disadvantages of using a course book in class. I found this part very interesting since I am constantly looking at curriculum and preparing my lesson plans to meet the needs of my students. It shared key points when choosing a course book. A course book should have: syllabus, vocabulary, balanced mix of grammar, skills work, appealing to the eye, practices previous taught skills, many good ideas and provide security for students and parents. Some of these I already knew, but it is important to refresh on these key points when considering a new curriculum and supporting materials to use in the classroom.
