Unit 19 on Teaching Special Groups explains the special populations of students that an EFL/ESL teacher may encounter. Included herein are beginners (of which there are several types), children, business people, monolingual groups, multilingual groups, and individuals. The unit discussed the characteristics of each of the groups, the advantages and disadvantages of teaching them, and some strategies and considerations to ensure they learn effectively and efficiently. This unit made me think about what kind of students I prefer to teach and to which group I would be most effective as a teacher. I used to think that I don't have what it takes to teach children but after studying this unit, I'm starting to think that I may be up to take that challenge someday.
