The most effective method is the "ESA" (Engage-Study-Activate) method. THere are three common forms of this lesson method: Straight Arrow (Engage-Study-Activate), Boomerang (Engage-Activate-Study-Activate), and Patchwork (Engage-Activate-Activate-Study-Activate-Engage-Study-Activate). In all stages, all participants, both teacher and student alike, should be using English and avoiding any other language usage. During the Engage stage of the lesson, the main aim should be for the students to get as much time talking in English as possible with as few interruptions or corrections from the teacher as possible, while using open hand gesture to help students feel less singled out. During the Study stage, students will learn new English language concepts without overwhelming them by eliciting the answers from the students themselves as much as possible and having examples before starting exercises. During feedback, try to let the students correct any mistakes first. During the study stage, student are encouraged to use what they know and what they have just learned creatively while the teacher maintains flexibility within the activities. It is essential that the student are given a clear demonstrations, which the teacher should involve the students in and have them repeat back the instructions. Feedback is necessary for understanding if the lesson was understood or if further exploration into a topic is necessary. Correcting is also important but best done with as much positive feedback as possible and, if possible, by the individual or his/her peers. Generally you don't want to interrupt an activity unless 1) the mistake is with the language point being taught, 2) the mistake is being repeated regularly by either the student or the other class members, or 3) the mistake seriously impedes understanding.
