From this unit I took away two main points. The first point that will stick with me is that on the first day it is more important to establish a rapport than to dive right into the textbook. Looking back on my own experiences that has been the case for most of my educational classes with only a few exceptions as I got older. However, building a rapport is something I think is essential for language learners and teachers. Often students, including myself when I was learning a foreign language, are afraid to make mistakes. The solution to this problem is a safe space with a trustworthy teacher. The second thing about this chapter that I found important is how to appropriately interact with reluctant students. I myself was a reluctant student as well, until I was able to build more confidence among my peers. The unit suggested having the students do recordings, and role play, and group work which can help assure the student that they are on track.
