Both authentic and created materials are useful in the classroom for different reasons.
Authentic materials are anything that a native speaker uses regularly, from magazines to newspaper articles to songs. They are beneficial because they are interesting, relevant, and create confidence in students.
Created materials are helpful because they are more aimed at the students' language level and usually come with helpful activities that less artistic teachers would be thankful for.
Course books are very useful in teaching as well, but can have disadvantages. They essentially will have an entire course syllabus planned out from start to finish, with supplementing materials and activities. This is very helpful for new teachers. However, this may not be beneficial when teachers find themselves becoming lazy and teaching straight from the book. It is good for students to receive a well-rounded lesson plan to avoid getting bored and to learn as much as possible.
