Unit 17 lays out a helpful and thorough guide to the various teaching materials that can be found/used in an ESL classroom. Teaching aids range from visual to audio, such as worksheets, DVDs, Youtube videos, and dictionaries. The trick, as this lesson pointed out, is to know what aids are best suited for which situation or activity. A teacher must know the pros and cons of using certain teaching aids. Visual aids such as picture cards or videos may work better to convey more abstract meanings rather than through definition or audio aids. Now that we are in a highly technological age, classrooms may be equipped with more digital teaching aids, such as an Interactive White Board, and it is important that teachers know how they work and cater their lessons so that the material is taught clearly without getting too distracting. When in doubt, always have a back up plan in case certain technology-based teaching aids malfunction.
