There are seven common future tenses.
The future simple tense is used when making promises, predictions, future certainties, threats, spontaneous decisions, and assumptions. For future simple tense activities, the teacher may give students scenarios ( win the lottery, going on vacation) or have them predict future changes or future personality changes to others, or use fortune-telling/palm-reading to stimulate the use of the simple future tense.
The future continuous tense is used to say that something will happen at a specific moment in the future, to say what we think might be happening now, for polite enquiries referring to other people's plans, or to refer to future events which are decided upon. Arranging dates with the students, or having them pretend to get out of a terrible date,or relate a scenario and have the students say what will be happening or what the subject(s) is/are doing at that moment.
The future perfect tense is used to say that something will have been accomplished by a certain time in the future. Some activities to help students use the future perfect tense may be to have them tell each other what they will have done by certain ages/years, or by having students write down a person/character and have them say at what ages they completed certain things, or a question and answer session based around what is happening in a scenario with specific parameters in the future.
The future perfect continuous is used to say how long something will have continued by a specific time. A great teaching activity could be asking questions to the students about how long they have been learning English, going to school, living in their hometown, etc.
The infinitive, or going to, future tense is used for plans made before they are spoken, predictions based on present evidence, and intentions. An activity for teaching the going to future tense could be to have the students say what is going to happen based around prompts or mime.
The present simple tense is used to suggest a more formal situation, for timetables and schedules, or to suggest a more impersonal tone. The teacher may share airport or railway schedules or discuss weekly timetables.
